Spring Maintenance

** 10 Steps to preparing your home for Spring **

Don’t let your house get away from you. A few small preventative maintenance projects can keep your home in tip-top shape.

1. Clean you gutters. Make sure all downspouts and gutters are free of debris. Prevent the backup of water into your home by making sure your gutters have the ability to drain.

2. Inspect your roof. Look for signs of wear and tear. Missing shingles or bent up metal can cause major home damage. Give the roof a quick look over while you’re cleaning the gutters.

3. Repair and seal all woodwork. This includes decks, railings, windows and door trim and stairs. A little sanding and sealing will make your woodwork look new and last much longer.

4. Inspect and repair window screens. Keep the bugs out all summer by making sure your window screens are not torn or damaged.

5. Inspect driveways and paths. The constant freezing and thawing we experience can wreck havoc on your concrete or asphalt. Be sure to seal all cracks and holes.

6. Clean out your dryer vent. This will keep your dryer working efficiently and help prevent fires.

7. Check outside faucets. Run all of your exterior faucets to ensure they are properly working and attach your hoses. Get ready to keep that lawn looking fresh.

8. Caulk windows and doors. This will prevent heat and humidity from creeping into your home all summer. It will also prevent the bugs from damaging your home.

9. Check all of your power equipment. Get your mower ready for summer. Change spark plugs, air filters and add new gas.

10. Pressure wash. This will give your home a fresh look and help prevent the growth of unwanted mold.
